Buddhist Mind Science –
Retreat Day

facilitated by Simon Harrison, FPMT Registered Teacher
Sunday, 14 June 2026, 10am – 4pm

Everyone is welcome to attend this retreat!

*Please register by Friday, 12 June, if you would like to attend so we can prepare for the retreat.*

Join us for an inspiring selection of meditations, reflections and helpful mental exercises that can help us discover the workings of our mind and the mechanisms of suffering and happiness.

Start unlocking your potential for mental balance, compassion and wisdom to increase lasting happiness and have a positive impact on oneself, others, and the world.

For those who have attended some of the Buddhist Mind Science classes, this will offer a helpful consolidation of key techniques.

For those new to the series, this can serve as a lovely introduction to give a taste of the practice techniques that this series generously offers.
The day will include guided reflections, meditations and group discussion. A simple vegetarian lunch will be provided along with an afternoon chai tea break!

Treat yourself to a day of inner exploration and supportive meditations to help you deal with life’s challenges and connect you with a community of people who also seek to make their lives meaningful.

Retreat Fee $45 including all sessions 10am – 4pm with simple vegetarian lunch and chai (Dharma Friend Monthly Contributors $30)

Meditation

“It is not the external appearance of our meditation that is important. Whether we sit with our arms folded this way and our legs crossed that way is of little consequence. But it is extremely important to check and see if whatever meditation we do is an actual remedy for our suffering. Does it effectively eliminate the delusions obscuring our mind? Does it combat our ignorance, hatred and greed? If it does reduce these negativities of mind, then it is a perfect meditation, truly practical and greatly worthwhile. If on the other hand it merely serves to generate and increase our negativities, such as pride, then it is only another cause of suffering.”

Experiential

“If you can discover, even in a small way, that true satisfaction comes from your mind, you will realize that you can extend this experience without limit and that it is possible to discover everlasting satisfaction.”

Brief Bio of Simon Harrison, Registered FPMT Teacher

Simon met Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche 47 years ago. He has been trying to follow their instructions to ‘check up’ since. He reports he is still working on it. Simon has been involved with Dorje Chang Institute for 44 years. He has served as a trustee for many years and currently serves as the Chairman. Simon has taught introductory level classes, including Discovering Buddhism modules, led meditations and facilitated discussion evenings for the intermediate level FPMT Basic Program classes. Simon offers a depth of Buddhist study, reflection and practice, gained with perseverance over the last four decades, that is helpfully combined with a Western scientific approach. His teachings offer a helpful bridge for students exploring and questioning Buddhism in a Western cultural setting.
