Happiness & Compassion

Happiness

“happiness is determined more by one’s state of mind than by external events.”

HH the Dalai Lama excerpted from The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living

The Key to Well-Being

“From my own limited experience, I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion.”

“The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater our own sense of well-being becomes. Cultivating a close, warm-hearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. This helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the ultimate source of success in life.”

HH the Dalai Lama excerpted from www.dalailama.com/messages/compassion-and-human-values/compassion

Led By

Ven Carolyn Lawler

Originally from the UK, Venerable Carolyn has been a Tibetan Buddhist nun for over 30 years. At Dorje Chang Institute Ven Carolyn has led meditations, book discussion groups (including The Fearless Heart and The Book of Joy ) as well as Discovering Buddhism classes.

We can change our mental attitude and meditation is a technique that can assist us in that process of change. By developing more compassion, one can experience more happiness in daily life. When one is happy, one can enhance the happiness of others.

Everyone is welcome! No prior experience of meditation necessary to join in.

“Everyone wants to lead a peaceful, happy life, but happiness and success aren’t measured by how much money you have, but by whether you have inner peace in your heart.”

HH the Dalai Lama

Parking and Where to Go

Is this your first time visiting Dorje Chang Institute?

Dorje Chang Institute is located at 56 Powell Street, Avondale, just off of Blockhouse Bay Road. We are at the very end of Powell Street on the left hand side.

If arriving by car, we recommend parking down in our private carpark. When you reach the end of Powell Street and go down to the slight hill to the cul-de-sac we are on the left hand side. There are two driveways one on the left of the main building and one on the right. Take the second driveway (just to the right of the main building) – there is a sign indicating parking down that driveway. The driveway goes down a hill to our parking lot. Then you can walk up around the back of the building where you will see a courtyard. In the courtyard there are stairs leading up to the upper level where the Library and Meditation Hall are. Please come on up.

If arriving on foot or by bicycle you can either come in the front red doors or walk around to the back of the building where you will see a courtyard. In the courtyard there are stairs leading up to the upper level where the Library and Meditation Hall are. Please come on up.
